Often, when an officer stops a person for speeding, the
driver will indicate he/she had no idea they were driving that fast. The SMART
trailer (Speed Monitoring Awareness Radar Trailer) is set up in different
areas throughout the jurisdiction to inform drivers how fast they actually
are traveling and, in turn, help them to be more aware of their speed in the
future.
What is the SMART trailer, you ask? It is a two wheel trailer that displays your speed as you approach it. The appropriate speed limit for that area is also posted there. As you drive past, the display will return to zero until the next vehicle approaches.
If you live in an area where there are concerns about speeding, contact the Police Department and we will schedule the SMART trailer to raise consciousness about speeding in your neighborhood. (Note: the SMART trailer is not available during the cold winter months.)
